Punjab Police finally arrest dismissed AIG Rajjeet Singh Hundal
Having been on the run for nearly three years, Rajjeet Singh surrendered before Patiala police on 24 September. Since his name surfaced in a drug‑trafficking case, he has been targeted by police and investigative agencies.
Rajjeet Singh faces multiple serious allegations, including alleged collusion with drug traffickers, extortion of bribes, and accumulation of assets exceeding his income. During the investigation of the drug network linked to the dismissed Inspector Indrajeet Singh, his role also emerged. It is alleged that both provided protection to drug traffickers and ensnared innocent people in drug cases, supposedly extorting them by force.
Dismissed from service in 2023
Based on the SIT's report, the Punjab government dismissed Rajjeet Singh from government service in April 2023. He was an AIG‑ranked officer in Punjab Police and became the first officer at the AIG level to be dismissed over a drugs case.
Case of assets exceeding income
The case of assets exceeding income was also within the scope of investigations against Rajjeet Singh. Vigilance Bureau investigations revealed suspicious financial transactions amounting to crores of rupees in the bank accounts of him and his wife. Based on this, a case was also registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Court declared him a fugitive
After repeatedly failing to appear in court and evading arrest, the Mohali Special Court declared Rajjeet Singh a fugitive. Subsequently, the STF began seizing his assets. Now, following his surrender, the police will interrogate him on matters related to the drug network, alleged bribery, and assets.
